Dentro de la geometría compleja, siempre ha habido gran interés el poder clasificar las superficies de Riemann. Por ejemplo, para las superficies de Riemann simplemente conexas X, se tiene la clasificación vía equivalencia conforme la cual establece que existen sólo tres clases.
